After suffering from a long illness, French couturier Jean-Louis Scherrer died today at the age of 78. Having begun his career by working alongside masters such as Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, Scherrer launched his line in 1962 and counted Jackie Kennedy and Sophia Loren among his clients. His house has not produced couture or ready-to-wear for several years and is currently owned by French group JSP, which, according to WWD, is developing its licenses. His funeral will be held in Paris on June 26.
