Champagne has traditionally been the fashion set’s libation of choice. But 24-year-old Laura Marciano just might change that with Mimi’s Beer. Named after Marciano’s grandmother, Mimi’s is both an actual blond beer brewed in France’s Rhône-Alpes (those who dined at the Fat Radish’s Paris pop-up last fashion week may have drank it with dinner) and a boutique. Having opened last July, the shop is nestled in Paris’ Marais district and carries Marciano’s limited-edition designs, some of which are crafted from reappropriated vintage wares. “I wanted people to have fun when they came to my store,” said Marciano of her idea to merge good shopping and a fine brew. “I also think that girls are more into beer now than, say, their mothers were,” she adds, noting that her cheeky bottle labels—which feature the front and back sides of a forties-style lady wearing a tres short dress—were designed to have a feminine look.

The quaint store carries both men’s and women’s clothes that, on average, range from about $40 to $330. All of Marciano’s designs are made in Paris (although she usually only produces three pieces of each style) and her printed sweatshirts, cropped floral bustiers, and embroidered jackets all boast a youthful, retro edge. “I wanted to design something that was colorful and affordable but that has real quality,” says Marciano of her line. “I buy most of my clothes in vintage shops, so I aim to create pieces that fall between old and new.” Rather than following a seasonal schedule, Marciano introduces new items into her store every couple of weeks. Her brew, however, maintains the same steady taste through and through. “It’s really light and easy to drink,” she says.

Mimi’s Beer is located at 57 rue de Bretagne, 75003, Paris; Phone: +33 1 42 74 86 42.
