When she first introduced her d’Orsay flats in 2010, Jenni Kayne had no idea that they would amass a cult following. “Running around L.A. with two young kids, I live in flats. But I still want to look good, so I aimed to create a new shape that solved the ballerina shoe problem for those who were sick of a round toe,” offered Kayne. “But I didn’t realize [their popularity] until about a year in. This blogger in China tweeted about them, and we started to get floods of calls at our West Hollywood store. I literally thought we’d been hacked!” she said, laughing.
Today, the Jenni Kayne customer’s obsession with the pointy-toed d’Orsay is still holding strong. And to give fans something new to lust over, the designer has introduced a super limited-edition range of the flat (she’s only produced ten pairs) made from sumptuous gray rabbit fur. “I love the idea of a fur slipper,” Kayne told us. “Especially for entertaining at home—they’re just so cozy, luxe, and chic.” The shoes are crafted with fur-covered toes and a suede back, so we wouldn’t advise wearing them in New York’s slush, but for a brisk (and dry) fall day or just lounging around the house in luxury, they seem the perfect cold-weather indulgence. The plush new kicks, which debut exclusively here, are priced at $690 and will be available starting November 15 from www.jennikayne.com.
