For Spring ’14, the top-tier bespoke tailor Timothy Everest and legendary Japanese tattoo artist Horiyoshi III came together to create a capsule collection. It might seem the meeting of opposite ends of the spectrum, but tattoos, laughed Everest at last night’s presentation in London, “are the ultimate bespoke.” As if to demonstrate, a disciple of Horiyoshi himself was applying his craft to a gentleman’s backside during the event. For those unwilling to invest permanently, there were the beautifully tattooed suits.
Modeling one prominently was Tilda Swinton, star of the short film the duo had Johnnie Shand Kydd film at Swinton’s Scottish home. One might’ve thought she’d be loath to open her home to the world, but she laughed off that notion. “Much better than going down to a London studio,” she said. “We just invite people in, and the brave ones come.” And where better than the comfort and safety of home to perform…what, exactly? At first, it appears to be tai chi. But Swinton is in fact replicating (and exaggerating) the movements a bespoke client will experience during a fitting. The video debuts here on Style.com.
