NAHM, the shirtdress-focused label by Nary Manivong and Alexandria Hilfiger, may have shuttered last season. But that didn’t stop Manivong from forging ahead, as he’s relaunched his namesake collection for Fall 2013. “It’s about going back to who I am and what I’m all about,” the self-taught Laotian designer (who is the subject of the documentary Dressed) told Style.com during a preview of the new range. The line focuses on clean, wearable silhouettes and includes standouts like a grass-green tank dress, which was cut from a slick coated tweed and styled with a matching T-shirt, as well as a slim suit with cropped “petal” pants. (Actually, Manivong showed our top picks in a range of colors, and we just happened to gravitate toward the emerald options.)

Now that Manivong is flying solo again, he has a renewed focus on his customer. “She’s smart, she’s confident, she’s independent. She’s a girl who’s going to wear what she wants, and she’s got the power in her hands,” he said. Still, self-financing an independent label isn’t cheap, so Manivong got resourceful and did what many young entrepreneurs have done: started a Kickstarter campaign. He’s aiming to reach $25,000 by March 7. Judging by the 150 supporters who turned out for his Kickstarter launch event, we’d say he’s got a good shot.
