Label: Heidi Merrick
Need to Know: The L.A.-based SoCal native’s Fall ‘13 collection pays homage to California. Taking a cue from Catherine Opie’s Sunrise and Sunset photograph series, Merrick worked with a saturated palette to create an almost earthy color story. The mix-and-match feel of the 55-piece collection, which features seasonally appropriate tweeds, silk georgettes, and bohemian prints, is born from the designer’s drive for wearability.
This season, Merrick places a focus on well-tailored pieces, which she feels are essential to the L.A. woman’s wardrobe. But the designer, who produces all her wares locally, still manages to keep her clothes relaxed and easy. View her Fall ‘13 collection in a short film, above.
She Says: “Because it’s Fall, there are mixed wools, printed wools, and different woven wools that I’ve tried to make California-friendly. And I never make clothes just for the art of it. I definitely believe in artful dressing, but you have to put it on in the morning, and that’s the number one thing for me.”
