Since launching her eponymous line 12 years ago, Lauren Moffatt has cultivated a design aesthetic that approaches color and whimsy with a not-too-precious hand. And though she’s included a swimsuit or two in select Spring collections, it’s only now that the designer has decided to launch a full swimwear line. “The buyers that we work really closely with mentioned that a lot of their customers couldn’t find suits that aren’t overtly sexy or too cheesy or too modest,” she said. “Ours are just a really nice balance, and the buyers asked for a complete swimwear collection.”
The 40-piece collection was less of a departure for the designer as it was a natural extension of her ready-to-wear. “The shapes are pretty traditional, and I think you find that same idea in our ready-to-wear line. A lot of our shapes are really classic—it’s the details that make them interesting or different,” the designer says. These details include hand-designed polka-dot, stripe, and heart prints (they also appear on the silk, cotton voile, and linen cover-ups) and strategic pops of coral, which stand out against the preppy navy, cream, and poppy-red palette. Launching this February, Lauren Moffatt’s debut swimwear collection will be available on her website and at other select retailers.
