Tabitha Simmons and Blake MycoskieIt was warm and toasty inside the Fat Radish last night at the Tabitha Simmons x Toms dinner, but goose bumps came up on more than one occasion. That’s what happens when people talk about the giving trips that Toms founder Blake Mycoskie organizes to disadvantaged parts of the world. Giving needy kids new shoes—over 10 million pairs and counting in just seven years—feels so good, they say, you get goose bumps. Fresh off one such trip, to Honduras, Simmons was still feeling the afterglow. “I didn’t realize how diligent Toms is, where they measure each child’s foot and make sure that they fit, and then they go back in six months and regift them shoes, so it’s not just a dump-and-leave, which I found was really special.” A celebration of the new collaboration between Simmons and the one-for-one company, the party drew friends of the brands such as Liv Tyler and Hilary Rhoda. Mycoskie never stays anyplace long. His twenty-four hours in New York was sandwiched between a boys’ weekend at his home in Austin and a quick trip to London for another dinner for TabiToms, followed by a visit to Amsterdam, where he’ll get better acquainted with the Toms team there. “I do about three giving trips a year,” he said, “They’re a good reset.” Next up: India in April.
