Time's Arrow's debut collectionIn the world of purses, functionality and style are all too often mutually exclusive. But with new brand on the block Time’s Arrow, that is not the case. Launched this month by apparel-industry veteran Christine Park, the handbag line delivers practical day-to-night purses with style to spare. Bags—if you will—for the urban adventurer.

“You see a beautiful handbag on the corner of every street in New York City,” says Park, “but I found that there was a lack of thought for the inside. So our key mantra was designing outside in and inside out.” The result is a line of bags with deceptively slim silhouettes—deceptive because, inside, one finds roomy gussets big enough to hold your credit cards, a lipstick (or four), and even an iPad. “You know how when you fold origami, and it’s super flat, and then you pop it up, and it turns into a bird? It has a similar function to that,” Park laughs.

Take the Epic Portfolio (above, bottom right), a little wonder that boasts a hidden fold-out section, removable mirror, and a lightly padded compartment for the aforementioned iPad. “When we made that bag, we really thought about that kind of utility for an urban explorer. And I think we tried to extrapolate ideas and details from that concept into each and every bag.”

Considering the brand’s debut range features fourteen styles in buttery signature leathers, patterned haircalf, and embossed-snakeskin and crocodile-print leather, we advise Herculean hobo bags to watch their backs.

Time’s Arrow’s debut collection is available for preorder now at Neiman Marcus, and will be sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Steven Alan, Lane Crawford, 10 Corso Como, and other select retailers come August.
