After spending her fair share of time on the styling circuit, 31-year-old Morgan Bogle felt like something was missing. “I was raised vegan, so I was a little freaked out by all the furs and skins. And I felt like there was a void in the sustainable, ethical-leather accessories world,” says the New York-based stylist. This Fall, Bogle takes a step toward filling this void with the launch of her new range of synthetic-leather handbags, Freedom of Animals. “I came up with the name because I wanted it to be straightforward,” explains Bogle. “That’s ultimately what I want: for all of us to be free, whether we’re humans or animals.” Working with a specialized, U.S.-based sustainable factory, Bogle’s color-blocked, vegetable-dyed bags are tailored to a smart city girl on the go, and boast sleek geometric silhouettes. Offered in a clean palette of black, cream, chocolate, and cobalt, the understated totes, clutches, and midsize wares (all of which are priced between $400 and $650) were designed with function, as well as aesthetics, in mind. “Because I’m a stylist, I lug an enormous amount of stuff around all the time. Being able to carry all your gadgets is really important to me,” she says, adding that every style—even the evening bags—come with detachable straps, so they can be carried by hand, on the shoulder, or cross-body.
Available soon in L.A. at Beckley, at 3×1 in New York, and online at Bogle’s Web site, Freedom of Animals will introduce a men’s bag for Spring, and has a shoe range in the pipeline. When she’s not working on the fashion front, Bogle fights for the freedom of animals in another way—she spends her spare time rescuing pit bulls. “My boyfriend and I have rescued ten, and as soon as one would leave, I would insist on getting another one,” she said. Her own pooch, named Sugar, is a rescue, too. “She’s so amazing. She comes to the factory with me all the time. She’s my little intern.”
