Nicole Trunfio’s career started with a bang at age 17 when Tom Ford discovered her during his time at Gucci, and in the past ten years, the Australian model has walked the runways for Versace, Roberto Cavalli, and Valentino, among others, and starred in campaigns for Karl Lagerfeld, Dolce & Gabbana, and Guess. These days, however, instead of pounding the catwalks, you’re more likely to find Trunfio sitting in the front rows, preening for photographers at events, or hard at work in her jewelry studio. The 26-year-old launched her fine jewelry line, Trunfio Jewels, last month after three years of conception. Each bracelet (her signature is the Universe Bracelet, a simple band with interchangeable charms), stackable ring, or pair of earrings incorporates a pyramid in the design, which is strong, defined, and timeless, according to Trunfio. “I’m more about a concept and don’t buy costume jewelry at all. I think that in today’s market, what’s more important is investment pieces that are personal,” she told Style.com of the line, which is available to purchase through her Web site. “For example, I wear a gold Rolex every single day and didn’t really wear a watch until I could get my gold Rolex.”

Trunfio has dabbled with jewelry design in the past (she studied it in school), but this project is her most focused and hands-on to date. “I’m a perfectionist and guess the reason why this collection took me so long was I really wanted to be involved in the process—get in there, sketching and designing, working with the casters and jewelers, polishing and examining every surface myself, art-directing the Web site,” she explained. “I can truly see myself doing this when I’m an old granny.” For the time being, Trunfio plans on releasing one new collection each year. Her next lineup will be based on the Zodiac (”I look at Astrology Zone obsessively and truly believe in horoscopes,” she said), and she also has a men’s capsule in the works (think bracelets with more masculine charms like pavé diamond bullets and skulls). As if that weren’t enough, Trunfio is also the front woman of electro-rock band Henry Blak. They had their first performance one year ago during NYFW at Milk and have been working on recording, mixing, and shopping their EP around to record labels. It helps that Trunfio’s father is a musician and she has been singing her entire life. It’s a lot to juggle, but Trunfio keeps her cool about multitasking. “I’m more dedicated and passionate than ever about seeing my personal vision through.” Here, Trunfio shows off her own designs.
