“The Fall 2012 collection had to do with uniforms—more specifically, navy nylon uniforms that had a kind of police academy feeling,” Patrik Ervell reminds us. Over the weekend, with his new Spring collection, he demonstrated that he’s moved on to something sunnier for inspiration (California), but for his Fall video (presented by Aldo), he went out of this world. “I think the video has a suggestion of the police academy setting. An academy of sorts but in an alternate world or possibly a future world,” he explains. To achieve that sci-fi vision, the designer collaborated with director M. Blash and shot the video at an indoor skydiving simulator, sending models flying into the air wearing the Ervell “uniforms.” “The Fall collection used a lot of heavier nylons, so the clothes worked really well with the concept of the video. Also, watching people fly around in my clothes was pretty amazing.”
