See Fashion First. That tagline was firmly in place when I arrived at Style.com seven years ago, and speed has always been one of the defining elements of the site. Of course, the definition of speed has changed over time. In the old days—and by old days I mean four years ago—people used to express amazement that we could post runway photos within 24 hours. Each season since then, we’ve posted the images more quickly than the one before, and today I’m pleased to announce our latest upgrades, designed to ensure that you won’t find a faster or higher-quality fashion viewing experience. These include:

Instant shows. Starting with the Spring 2013 ready-to-wear season, we will be transmitting runway images directly from the venues for multiple shows a day. Now you’ll be able to see the top looks in as close to real time as possible.

Dramatically enhanced runway slideshows. We’re introducing bigger, richer images, added functionality like zoom, and more intuitive navigation. (You can find more details below.) As much as we value speed, we’re also focused on the depth and quality of our coverage.

These are the first in a series of new initiatives that you’ll see on the site in the coming weeks. If you have any comments or come across any technical issues, please e-mail us at info_style@style.com. Your feedback is vital as we continue our commitment to be the place where you can both see fashion first and see fashion best.

Sincerely,

Dirk Standen
Editor in chief

Our New Fashion Slideshows: A User’s Manual
We have designed our new runway slideshows to be as easy to use as possible, but here are some quick tips to get you started:

Navigating between slides
In addition to using the previous and next arrows located to the bottom right of the main image, you can go back or forward by using the ← and → keys on your keyboard. You can also click on the main image to advance to the next slide.

Clicking the “play” button above the previous and next arrows causes the slideshow to advance automatically every five seconds.

Click on any image in the strip of smaller images to the left of the main image to skip directly to that look.

Navigating between collection, review, and other sections
You can now access all of our show content from within the slideshow. Click on the tab located directly above the main image to navigate among the collection, review, and —where available—beauty, detail, and front row sections.

Details and “Move It”
When a show has detail shots and/or short “Move It” video clips, those features can now be found easily to the right of each look.

Zoom
Click on the zoom icon to the right of the main image to enlarge any look. Click and drag your mouse over the image to focus on a particular portion of the image. You can quit zoom by clicking on the close button at the top of the image, clicking on the zoom icon, or simply advancing to the next slide.

Fullscreen
You can launch the fullscreen slideshow directly from a review page or by clicking on the fullscreen button in the regular slideshow. The images will scale according to your browser size.

Print, e-mail, lookbook, and social media buttons
Click on the print or e-mail icons located above the look number to print out or e-mail an individual look. Social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, as well as the “add to lookbook” button, are located at the top right of the slideshow.

Instant shows
This season, we will be transmitting runway images directly from the venues for multiple shows each day. These shows will be marked by a red instant icon at the top left of the slideshow, and the “filmstrip” to the left of the main image will update automatically as each look arrives. Starting next week, we’ll publish a calendar on the main fashion shows landing page, indicating which upcoming shows will have instant images available.

If you notice any technical issues or would like to share any other feedback on the slideshows, please e-mail us at info_style@style.com.
