The party last night may have been at No. 8, but for Brad Goreski’s birthday, thrown by Kate Spade, the magic number was 35. Not that guests like Christina Ricci and Christian Siriano could easily tell from the stylist’s boyish, bespectacled good looks, whose silhouette was printed on napkins and helium balloons, and black Dsquared² tuxedo jacket with sequined lapels. “I picked this out in the showroom,” he said. “Isn’t it cute?” Goreski, who paired it with a matching sequined vest and glittering shoes, is indeed one of the rare birds who could pull off the look.

Others, given the August humidity, had gone for more casual ensembles. Alejandro Ingelmo was in a simple cotton T-shirt, though he seemed ready for finer fall fare. “I can’t wait for the temperatures to drop so that I can wear more clothes,” he said. With September only a few weeks away, conversation naturally turned to work. “There’s not really summer Fridays anymore,” Ingelmo observed. Siriano, nearby, chatted about his upcoming TV projects.

And Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, where Goreski consults, is doing double duty this week. Tonight, Kate Spade unveils a collaboration with Garance Doré. “I’m such a huge fan of her photos and particularly her illustrations,” Lloyd said. “It’s completely aspirational for me—this idea that these women can just walk out their door and be so effortless.” With Doré’s eye in mind, the capsule collection includes classically chic handbags, frocks, and a seasonless trenchcoat, perhaps some of which will make it into Lloyd’s Rio de Janeiro wardrobe. The company is opening a store there this month. “The big thing is what to pack!” Lloyd said, just before a birthday cake was pulled out, accompanied by a couple of drag queens. “Brad and I have been going over our outfits,” she added. From the look of the birthday boy and the performers, surely sequins would do the trick.
