For Spring, the New York-based designers Monica Paolini and Sean Monahan of Sea were asked by Barneys Co-Op’s fashion director, Tomoko Ogura, to create a raincoat exclusively for the retailer. “We felt there was a void in the market for stylish, functional raincoats,” explains Ogura, who picked Sea along with a handful of her other favorite brands, like Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, and 10 Crosby, for the project. Sea’s answer to the assignment, an Italian lace number, perfectly fits Ogura’s fashion-meets-function requirements. “We always sell lace well, so when Barneys asked us to develop a raincoat, we wanted to do something that was a bit more special than a standard raincoat,” Monahan tells Style.com. “So we worked with the mill and came to this coated, sealed lace.” Style.com has a first look at the jacket ($495), here. The full range of raincoats from each brand is available now exclusively at Barneys.
