Never one to shy away from a spectacle, Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg decided it was time to go camp—and back to camp. Together with his new retail partners Net-a-Porter and Mr Porter, the designer hosted a screening of the legendary cult classic Meatballs under the stars at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. “We really wanted to do something that was indicative of summer. And what’s more L.A.—and what’s more us—than summer camp, and meatballs, and dead people six feet under?” the designer deadpanned. “As always, we’re amused by the notion of a fashion party with a meatball theme. And the cool thing about these guys is they are too.” Thick in the throes of designing Fall ‘12, the moonlit screening was the perfect reprieve pre-fashion week, where Sternberg will be presenting his womenswear collection for Boy and Girl underneath the High Line.

Soon-to-be Spider-man Andrew Garfield (left, with Sternberg) arrived stealthily on a moped and blended well in the hipster-heavy crowd, including Wren’s Melissa Coker, Sarah Silverman, and Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis. Chatting with Net-a-Porter’s Holli Rogers and Tracy Taylor, Nicole Richie mused that though it was her first time meeting the Band designer, her inclination to menswear made them fast friends. “Joel wears Band of Outsiders all the time,” Richie said of her husband (and date for the night), “and I constantly find myself borrowing his stuff.” The end result? “I just started buying the line now on my own and I have to say I’ve been a huge fan ever since.”
